Also, sometimes it seems like the magnitude of the tragedy renders any words or actions meaningless.

I guess what I am saying, John, is that I think you have done the perfect thing for Adam. It was awfully nice of you.

I found it in a collection of Tolkien’s translations of Middle English poetry.
