Luckily, the 300 hour months were not frequent. I had several in 2008 when I was flying all over the place for discovery issues in a Section 337 Investigation (patent infringement) in front of the International Trade Commission- those are hardcore.

Then I started having a few in a big patent case in Texas that was nearing the end of discovery and required all hands on deck all the time- but then my office closed!

In the end, I actually ended up taking nearly 6 months off (paid!!) last year because of two months of paternity leave and then the time I was "unemployed" (with severance), so the few 300 hour months weren't that bad. But those months remained blogless because of the stress and time involved in adapting to twins and the stress and time involved in my job search. I wish I could have enjoyed that time off a little more!

As a fellow attorney (Nevada) reading your comment of another 300 hour billing month made me gulp big time. Have been practicing for some 27 years, 4 1/2 as a jag, and the most I have ever billed was perhaps 200. In fact, left one job some years ago because my eldest (who was then 9) wrote my wife a memo about how I wasn't fun any more because I was either at work, at home working on work, or sleeping because of too much work.
How a firm would let you go is beyond me.

Thanks for the update. What a two years it has been! Life is quite a journey, isn't it? Your faith comes through in your words, and as someone who has also had quite a doozy of a couple of years, it's always inspiring to me to read of others' faith and endurance.
