The Old Testament Prophesies of … Santa Claus?!?

Reposted from last year, for your amusement:

Several people have expressed concerns about celebrating pagan symbols, such as Santa Claus, at Christmas, since he is a “lie“. Well — I am here to lay all your concerns to rest, because the Old Testament prophesies of Santa!!! So let’s open up our Old Testaments, shall we?

Zechariah prophesies:

Upon the four and twentieth day . . . came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah . . . the prophet, saying,

I saw by night, and beheld a man riding upon a red horse, . . . and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.

[. . .]

And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

[. . .]

Then; lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold . . . horns . . . com[ing] from the land of the north.

[. . .]

I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a . . . line in his hand.

Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To . . . Jerusalem, to . . . the breadth thereof, and . . . the length thereof.

And behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him.

And said unto him, Run, speak to this . . . man, saying,

[. . .]

Ho, ho, come forth . . . from the land of the north, saith the Lord.

Zechariah 1:7 – 2:6 (heavily edited version, with emphasis added).

Take that, Santa-haters! Santa is right there in the Bible!! I rest my case about Santa Claus. He lives!

Do I even need to mention…

    Jeremiah 10:2-4
    2. Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
    3. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
    4. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

  3. Jeff,

Thank you for bringing this post back to where it should be. Christmas traditions have definitely gone astray, even as far back as the Old Testament, although I think that Jerimiah actually saw our day and was writing to us.

And I hope that you know that red horse is very different from reindeer. That doesn’t really prove anything at all.
